If there is one dish extender I am fond of using in my home cooked meals and recipes, it is mushrooms that come in pieces and stems! Mushroom is a great and healthier substitute from meat.Vegetarians very well know this too.
And one household brand that’s an expert in providing mushrooms in the market is JOLLY, one of the leading brands in canned fruits, and vegetables. Great news is that JOLLY has come up with a learning program – JOLLY University, which aims to encourage college students to LEARN essential industry skills CREATE career milestones and SHARE inspiring values with others.
For its second year, the JOLLY University has toured 7 out of 12 universities all over the metro. Thanks to a blogger friend of mine, I was able to attend the Cook Off Challenge at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. This college is such a historic site since national hero Gat Jose Rizal went to school here as well in his academic years. Letran is now a fusion of old and new buildings!
Various topics were shared to the HRM students by renowned speaker Chef Nina Daza-Puyat on Cooking Demo and Filipino Food. Chef Nina and her family are talented and gifted cooks from their mom the late Nora V. Daza down to her siblings. JOLLY also distributes various wines and Product Manager Ms. Jasmine Capule gave a very interesting brief lectures on Wines 101. A representative from co-partner Uratex Philippines also gave a short talk on the value and benefits of sleep.
My fellow bloggers and myself were also ushered into the food lab where the cook off from three different teams were transpiring. It was interesting to note that these students were not exactly HRMs but some of them were taking up Nutritional Dietetics! While we were sampling some of the entries, the judges were giving their critiques based on taste, presentation and originality among others.
When we got back to the lecture room, the students were having fun with the in between games that emcee Paul Quimbo was officiating. The lucky games winners were handed out various items from the partner sponsors aside from JOLLY goody bags.
After the evaluation by the judges, the team who emerged Cook Out Champs was Team ND Babies composed of Ansel Jeff Beso, Queen Mary Ann Boliche and Cyril Jerome Manning. Their winning dishes were Crispy Chicken with Mushroom and Oyster Sauce and Mandarin Crumble Pie for dessert. CONGRATS guys! Well done!
All competing teams used various products of JOLLY into their recipes including the use of Jolly Cow Condensed Milk, Jolly Mushroom, Jolly Canola Oil, Jolly Corn among others. The winning team automatically gets a slot for the JOLLY University Boot Camp and has earned the right to represent their school for the Grand Culinary Cook Out Finals slated on March 7 2015.
As a token of Thank You and appreciation JOLLY and its co-partners handed over valuable items for the school administration. And it was appreciated back.
Now it’s off to the remaining schools to complete this year’s list of JOLLY University Finalists.
Congratulations Fly Ace Corporation and JOLLY for coming up with this one of a kind university that will hone and inspire more culinary student to excel and make a mark in the food industry.
