Marathon Relay Anyone? Make It Asics!

Around 750 teams are expected to participate in the first Asics Relay Philippines slated on May 26 at the SM By The Bay in Pasay City.

The race offers a different experience as it will be held at night.

Distances on tap are the 21K half marathon and 42K full marathon, with participants can join in the male, female and mixed events.

Succeeding from last year’s version, the ASICS Relay 2018 will feature the additional of Philippines in its five countries relay series, among participating countries are Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore.

Each team member is required to complete two legs of 5.25 kilometers for the full marathon and one leg of 5.25km for half marathon to meet the total distance.

The preceding member of the team will need to hand the relay token to the next runner within the designated transition zone to delineate the changeover of runners.

Winners in both the full and half marathon categories will be rewarded with a finisher’s medal, as well as cash and product prizes.

“Our goal is to expand this concept in key cities, and [Manila] is one of those key cities,” said Asics Asia Sports Marketing Manager Andy Neo.

“We know that the Philippines is a country [where] everybody loves sports,” he added.

The champion team of the Full Marathon race categories will also be walking away with team slots to any one of the ASICS Relay race held in another country, inclusive of flight tickets and accommodation.

Olympian and SEA Games gold medal runner Mary Joy Tabal believes the “unique” race will be beneficial for the nation’s running scene.

“This will encourage a lot of runners to improve teamwork,” said Tabal. “Running is an individual sport, so it is unique. It [would] be my first time to be running with a team.”

Of Blood Letting and Anti Cyberbullying with KathNiel

More than fighting evil vampires at La Luna Sangre as Tristan and Malia, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla fight cyberbullies in real life. Kicking off their anti-cyberbullying campaign as Cybersmile Ambassadors, KathNiel together with Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Kathniel’s fan base KDKN Solidarity Community, Inc. along with volunteer-individual and other fan group supporters conducted a simultaneous event dubbed as“Give Blood. Fight Cyberbullying” last Nov. 5 at the PRC Headquarters and across 18 (initially targeted 22) other PRC blood centers nationwide.

The event was held to gather as many blood donors, promote La Luna Sangre in Halloween season and fashion as blood donors were encouraged to wear costumes of their favorite La Luna Sangre characters, and formally launch the anti-cyberbullying campaign of KathNiel.

According to PRC Director for National Blood Services Dr. CristieMoninaNalupta, the simultaneous event garnered 50,000 cc of blood which could possibly help and save lives of 360 patients. The event also made noise at social media as #ImACybersmiler and #LLSBloodletting were its digital battle cry in its awareness campaign.

It included a Q & A portion with KathNiel and DICT Assistant Secretary Allan Cabanlong sharing from their personal experiences and important tips on how to handle bullies online to the status of the bill named as“An Act Defining and Penalizing the Crime of Cyberbullying”, otherwise known as theAnti-Cyberbullying Act of 2015.

Asked as to what her worst experience was with cyberbullying Kathryn said, “Dumatingakosa point nanagkulongakosakwarto at hindiakokumakausap ng tao at sobrangna-depress akoSana mas maging aware ang mgataonaseryoso ang bagaynaito.” Knowing that anyone in social media could have the same terrible experience as hers, is her principal motivation to engage in this advocacy. “Na-experience naming kung paanoitokasakit at ayawna naming lumala pa ito at ma-experience pa ng maramingtao, lalona ng mgakabataan.”

A thrust on accountability and consequences is a must. According to Daniel, their advocacy along with DICT is to come up with a “sapatnapangil” against the cyberbullies. “Hindi silapwedengnanggaganonlang ng taonahindinilakilala. Hindi pwedengnang-aapilangsila ng tao out of nowhere,” he said.

On their vision of supporting the cyberbullying campaign, Kathryn said of the internet “For communication and good vibes. Wag gamitin ang internet para maniralang ng ibangtao.” Daniel adds, “Negative attracts negative. Positive attracts success…Never ka magiging successful sabuhay kung sobrakangnegatibongtao at walakangginawa kung hindimanira.” He calls on his fellow artists, musicians and everyone in showbiz to join him and Kathryn in fighting cyberbullying as this is a serious problem that should be given due attention.

Best advice from Kathryn? Family and friends can help a lot in values formation and can help you deal with the negative feelings you get from cyberbullies. But as for dealing with cyberbullies themselves, she said “intindihin din at ikaw ang maging mas malakingtaosakanila.”

As for Daniel, we need to also understand what kind of person the cyberbully we’re dealing with. He said, “di namanpwedenalahat ng basherssa cyberspace ay sagutinmo, dahilyungibahindinaman legit or fake accounts lang at meron ding ibadapatintindihin at bakameronsiyangproblema”. But at the end of the day he says, “Mas magingmabutinalangtayongtao.”
The Cybersmile Foundation is a multi-awarded international non-profit organization committed to the fight against cyberbullying.

Some of the other 19 blood centers include: Batangas, Calamba, Tarlac, Cavite, Pampanga, Olongapo, Baguio, Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod,  Aklan, Dumaguete, Davao, Cagayan De Oro, Butuan, General Santos, Misamis Occidental, and Zamboanga City.

Cool Tips for a Long Weekend

Don’t you just love long weekends? This is so applicable to working professionals and students alike!

This June 26 is Eid’l Fitr, in the calendar this year, it means another long weekend may be coming up. While we wait for the official announcement, everyone’s now scrambling to snag those promo fares or bus tickets to take advantage of this free Monday. We’re not all that lucky though, so if you won’t be able to whip up a quick vacation, here are a few things that will keep you entertained without leaving the city. Some of them are even free!
The best thing about a long weekend in the city is there are way less people crowding the streets and restaurants. Here’s your chance to head to some of those sought-after restaurants you can’t seem to get a free table in. Grab a seat at the 20-seater Mendokoro Ramenba at Salcedo Village in Makati, the tiny but super popular La Chinesca at BF Homes in Paranaque, or the full-to-the-brim Locavore in BGC or Kapitolyo.
Looking for someone who knows how to have fun? Turn to the little ones, whether you have your own kids, your young relatives, or your mommy-friend’s tots. There are so many things to do around Manila during the long weekend, but bringing the kids along will give it that extra energy and humor. Take a kalesa tour around the beautiful Intramuros, visit the many museums around the city and the newly-opened Planetarium in Manila, or let their (and your) energy loose at the many activities at SM by the Bay, Kidzania, or Dreamplay.
If you’ve been trying to live a healthier lifestyle which is a must, perhaps a visit to BPI-Philam’s Win the Moment Wellness Festival will help you jumpstart this change. Head to Trinoma Activity Center on June 24 and participate in interactive booths that let you experience total wellness – not just physical but also social, emotional, mental and financial. From dance classes by G-Force, life-sized board games, and inspirational talks that help you pursue passion without losing all your live savings, the Win the Moment Wellness Festival brings a unique experience to all Filipinos.

Top it off with a mini concert by KZ Tandingan and Quest, and you’ve crossed out one full day! Just download the Philam Vitality Active App from the Apple Store or Google Play and use the promocode bplacwtm to gain free entrance.

I hope you were all able to take note of these. Share me later what happend?

So enjoy your looooong weekend before the end of this month! Cheers! ☻☻☻

Be a Neu Bake Super Slice Fan Just Like Baeby-Baste

Known to the general public as dabarkads and super cutey Bae-by Baste, the four year old child superstar from the daily noon time show Eat Bulaga has been making waves since his YouTube dubsmash days up to this very day. That is why the country’s leading bread manufacturer Gardenia got him and his loving mom Sheila to be the latest endorsers of Neu Bake Super Slice variant.

Sebastian Benedict Granfon, aka Baste is a bright, precocious young boy who never fails to liven up our afternoon with his charm, wit and natural flair for comedy.

Neu Bake’s Super Slice which is bigger than most white breads in the market, making it perfect for Baste’s big appetite. During the special mother and son bonding time of Bae-by Baste and Mommy Sheila at their recent media launch, while her mom was busy sharing their cute sandwich stories, he was also busy doing his own thing with his sandwich and fillings.
Mommy Sheila further shares that as a mom, it is important to prepare healthy food to our children. Just like his son who loves egg and ham sandwiches among others, the food bonding moments they share keep them closer together. She loves preparing these bread snacks and packs them as “baon” for Baste his daily noon time duties.

The media is goo-goo ang gaga over Bae-by Baste. In here, he was being interviewed by a couple of showbiz reporters from TV5 and GMA Kapuso 7. And his candid answers make him more cute and adorable!
Say cheeeeeese!!!

Even the staff of Gardenia’s Neu Bake Super Slice could not resist having this cool group photo op with Mommy Sheila and Baste. And how that red apron looks nice on him!
Of course, yours truly was a success in this spotlight-like selfie with dabarkad Baste. It’s been in my bucketlist of mine to have a photo with this babe and thank you Neu Bake for making it sooo happen!

Neubake Super Slice comes in a horizontal, super tipid pack and only costs P29 for 10 slices. You may also try the Wheaten Bread variant which I personally like!

NeuBake is now available in leading supermarkets and convenience stores.

Many thanks Chelle Campos for having us during Bae-by Baste’s event with Neu Bake Super Slice. Until the next ones to come! ☺♥☺
