Acer and G Shock Bridge the Gap in a #TimeForUS Campaign

Acer Philippines, a leading tech and innovations company, launches #TimeForUs, a movement that aims to narrow the divide between Gen Xers and millennials. Acer Philippines moves to bring two generations closer through technology, breaking down barriers built on misconceptions and misunderstandings.

“At Acer, we believe that it’s time to focus on bridging the generation divide,” shares Sue Ong-Lim, Sales and Marketing Director of Acer Philippines. “It’s imperative that we see that, amidst the differences between Gen Xers and millennials, they are also a lot alike.”

Acer Philippines also called on rock musician Basti Artadi and spoken word artist Juan Miguel Severo, both artistic icons of their craft and time, to collaborate and develop “Time For Us” a musical-and-spoken word piece to drive the message of the campaign. Basti Artadi, vocalist of the award-winning rock band Wolfgang, rose to fame in the mid- to late-90s, making him a legend among those from Gen X.

The conference also had favorable reactions from foreign online commenters when the video clip of a Father And Daughter featuring Apollo and his lovely daughter were shown to the guests. Awww how su-weeeet!

The Uniqueness of 5 Loaves & 2 Fish Restaurant

Discovering a new restaurant is always a fun adventure! ☺☺
Just recently, yours truly alongside other food and lifestyle bloggers got an exclusive invite to check out 5 Loaves & 2 Fish restaurant located at The Rock, mini mall, in Don Antonio Heights, Quezon City.
Upon entering the premises, you could immediately feel the homey vibe aside of course from the delicious food and desserts this resto has in store. With a high ceiling set up, the place looks and feels cozy and it makes you want to stay and linger longer while enjoying their sumptuous menu with family or friends.
My associates could not help but adore the meal samples displayed at the presentation table. The owner of 5 Loaves & 2 Fish, Ms. Dinah Miro, wanted to share their best sellers as well as personal favorites to us all. Like most of restaurant owners, her family’s passion is good food not only for the body but also for the soul. This also explains the biblical verses around the resto and into their wall design. These have fully inspired Ms. Dinah and her family to put up 5L2F.

On hand also was Chef Jay Sycip who aside from taking care of the valuable menu, is also responsible for the store’s operations. And yes he is related to the legendary and iconic and famous founder of SGV accounting firm, Mr. Washington Sycip through his dad. Way to go, chef!

Spaghetti With Chicken Parmesan is one of my personal favorites. Just the right taste!                                  Photo Credit: Rence Chan
High 5 Salad – flavorful balsamic vinegar and guava puree blend of pleasant and unique taste. with sundried tomatoes , candied nuts , diced guava , grated parmesan cheese. Will really make you want to High 5 your seatmate or food buddy!
Pork Ribs BBQ — special marinated sauce with 4 to 6 hours to cook the pork , making the meat is tender and tasty. Must taste!

Miss Dinah surprised us by raffling off a few of their bestseller whole cakes and yours truly was among those lucky winners! I won a Matcha Green cake which I was excited to bring home to family, YEHEY!!! And from the looks of it, the cake was yummy-looking and I was impressed how it was designed highlighting the matcha feel. The smell of matcha was likewise so prevalent and it enticed my appetite for a quick bite.
According to Chef Jay, the cake has no preservatives so it is advisable to consume it all right away. Whoaaa!
Many thanks Ms. Dinah!

The price range for the cake slice is between Php 145 to Php 180 per slice. They are not overly sweet compared to some well-known bakeshop. Among their best sellers are the cheesecake, chocolate cakes, pink guava cakes, matcha green tea cheesecake , dulce de leche.
Here we were as one big happy family! Media bloggers with the owner and admin of 5 Loaves 2 Fish. Thank you so much for having all of us! Until our next visit! ☺☺

Cool Tips for a Long Weekend

Don’t you just love long weekends? This is so applicable to working professionals and students alike!

This June 26 is Eid’l Fitr, in the calendar this year, it means another long weekend may be coming up. While we wait for the official announcement, everyone’s now scrambling to snag those promo fares or bus tickets to take advantage of this free Monday. We’re not all that lucky though, so if you won’t be able to whip up a quick vacation, here are a few things that will keep you entertained without leaving the city. Some of them are even free!
The best thing about a long weekend in the city is there are way less people crowding the streets and restaurants. Here’s your chance to head to some of those sought-after restaurants you can’t seem to get a free table in. Grab a seat at the 20-seater Mendokoro Ramenba at Salcedo Village in Makati, the tiny but super popular La Chinesca at BF Homes in Paranaque, or the full-to-the-brim Locavore in BGC or Kapitolyo.
Looking for someone who knows how to have fun? Turn to the little ones, whether you have your own kids, your young relatives, or your mommy-friend’s tots. There are so many things to do around Manila during the long weekend, but bringing the kids along will give it that extra energy and humor. Take a kalesa tour around the beautiful Intramuros, visit the many museums around the city and the newly-opened Planetarium in Manila, or let their (and your) energy loose at the many activities at SM by the Bay, Kidzania, or Dreamplay.
If you’ve been trying to live a healthier lifestyle which is a must, perhaps a visit to BPI-Philam’s Win the Moment Wellness Festival will help you jumpstart this change. Head to Trinoma Activity Center on June 24 and participate in interactive booths that let you experience total wellness – not just physical but also social, emotional, mental and financial. From dance classes by G-Force, life-sized board games, and inspirational talks that help you pursue passion without losing all your live savings, the Win the Moment Wellness Festival brings a unique experience to all Filipinos.

Top it off with a mini concert by KZ Tandingan and Quest, and you’ve crossed out one full day! Just download the Philam Vitality Active App from the Apple Store or Google Play and use the promocode bplacwtm to gain free entrance.

I hope you were all able to take note of these. Share me later what happend?

So enjoy your looooong weekend before the end of this month! Cheers! ☻☻☻

Happy Philippine Independence Day 2017 the Google Way

Google doodle celebrates Philippines’ 119th Independence Day
Illustrator Dan Matutina designs Independence Day doodle 2017

Google Philippines joins the country in celebrating its 119th Independence Day with a special one-day only doodle on the google.com.ph homepage designed by Filipino illustrator Dan Matutina. This year’s Independence Day doodle combines the beauty of the Philippine flag and the country’s unique island landscapes and is celebrated every June 12th.

This is Google’s eighth Independence Day doodle for the Philippines, and it features Filipinos gathered around the Philippine flag for a flag raising ceremony while sunrise can be seen over the water, symbolizing the Filipinos’ optimism in the face of adversity. The Philippine flag was first raised on June 12, 1898 in Kawit, Cavite as a symbol of the country’s independence from colonial rule. Now, flag raising ceremonies are held in all schools and government offices while singing the Philippine National Anthem.

“Doodle” is the name used for decorative changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists. Doodles make searches even more fun as we learn new things with each new design.

The first doodle was created in 2000 when Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin asked then intern and now Google’s chief doodler Dennis Hwang to design a logo for Bastille Day. Since then, the Google homepage has featured thousands of doodles, making search even more fun and entertaining.

FIRST PHILIPPINE PARALYMPICS SUMMIT TO SUPPORT PARA ATHLETES

Alay PARA Atleta Program launched; preparations underway for ASEAN PARA Games,
Asian Para Games and Paralympic Games

The Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC) and the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA) will hold the first Philippine Para Sports Summit that will focus on the Parlympic movement in the country on June 9, 2017 at the Microtel, Technohub in Quezon City.

PPC, the National Paralympic Committee of the Philippines and PHILSPADA are the organizations spearheading the activities and operational requirements of elite athletes with a disability (orthopedic disability, cerebral palsy, visual impairment and mental disabilities).

With the theme “Transcending Barriers Through Sports”, the one-day gathering of sports officials, athletes, coaches and trainers, sports doctors, marketing experts and policy makers who are the key players in the industry will look into the state of Paralympic Sports in the Philippines to identify local and international goals to enable Filipino para athletes to achieve sporting excellence to excite and inspire the world.

Another goal of the convention is to find ways to develop para sports as a tool for changing the lives of Filipinos with disabilities while contributing to the development of an inclusive society.  One hundred participants are expected to attend from various sports organizations including national sports associations, non-government organizations, private corporations and the government sector.

The past decade saw the rise of Filipino Para athletes in the global arena such as Josephine Medina, the para table tennis player who gave the country its second Paralympics Bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, sixteen years after powerlifter, Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta, got the first ever Bronze medal in the Sydney Paralympic Games in year 2000 and Ernie Gawilan, the legless swimming sensation discovered from Davao City, who is a consistent Gold medalist in the ASEAN Para Games ever since becoming a member of the national team. There has also been an increase in number of para athletes and their participation in local, regional and international competitions. Support and recognition from government and private partners, have also improved over the years.

With sights set on the 9th ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia this September 2017, the Asian Para Games in Indonesia in 2018, the 10th ASEAN Para Games in Manila and the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2020, the para sports summit envisions key partnerships with government and private sector to further inspire and equip para-athletes who are only too eager to compete and do their part for the country’s glory.

Key speakers in the summit are: Chairman William I. Ramirez of the Philippine Sports Commission; Mr. Peping Cojuangco, President of the Philippine Olympic Committee; Michael Barredo, President of PPC-PHILSPADA; noted sports medicine expert Dr. Raul Canlas; Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation expert, Dr. Raul Cembrano; Sec. General and former Olympic swimmer Gerardo “Ral” Rosario; para-coaches Joel Deriada of Athletics and Vernon Perea of Wheelchair Basketball; as well as para-athletes Gawilan, Medina and Dumapong-Ancheta.

An interesting sidelight of the event will be a Wheelchair Dance Sport exhibition while the high point of the summit will be the launch of the “Alay Para Atleta” program, a nationwide campaign that will enable the general public to participate in the Paralympic Movement via a P50 annual contribution through mobile phone access.

#LiveBrighter Series with Jonathan Yabut for SunLife PH

The very first time I met Jonathan Yabut was during a blogger’s event to help promote the reality show Apprentice Asia back in 2013, which was the asian version of its US original. He was with fellow contender Celine Le Neindre. The entire season was already pre-taped, including who won and I was very anxious who could have won?

During that event, I became an instant fan of Jonathan and felt deep within that this very smart and eloquent guy was going to be a finalist and en up in the Top 3 or 2 spots. And when the final episode came up, my hunch was correct and Jonathan made it to the Final 2 alongside his strongest opponent Singaporean Andrea Ern-Yu. But in the end, Air Asia’s Mr. Tony Fernandes declared Jonathan the grand winner and so our Philippine flag prevailed!

I had the chance to personally congratulate Jonathan during a post Apprentice Asia public event where some of the finalists flew here in town for a meet and a greet session at BGC. It was that time that I stayed in touch with him and Celine thro social media.

Fast forward to four year later, I had the privilege of attending a special #LiveBrighter series headed by Jonathan for SunLife Philippines that discussed from grit to great. He has left Air Asia and has put up his own consultancy firm and is an author of inspiring books on how to succeed. Jonathan also gets invited to a lot of talks and business seminars here and abroad.

According to Jonathan, there are scientists who have done studies on the most successful individuals, from employees, CEOs, and company moguls, and one common thing in all their stories is the way they stood up to failure. That is GRIT.
Grit is the ability to roll with the punches, to learn how to handle and deal with failures, and most importantly, the ability to be able to rise up no matter how many times one falls down.
He pointed out the importance of having a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset; a person with a growth mindset has more room for success because they understand the importance of the expansion of the mind, which in turn leads to the expansion of skills, network, and opportunities, leading to a better life.

GRIT is also known as “passion and perseverance for a very long term goals.” Beauty, brains, and wealth will never get us there if we know how to handle ourselves out there. GRIT also refers to “traffic different egos and personality (emotional maturity),” how to execute plans and how to respond to failures and shortcomings. Surprise thought about GRIT is it doesn’t happen overnight. We have a responsibility and duty to play to get that GRIT in us. And we millennial should learn how to mold these characters.

SOCIAL PURPOSE
The most successful companies are aimed at making lives better. Tetrapak’s goal is to help prolong the shelf life of food in areas that don’t have access to refrigeration. Starbucks’ main business is to inspire people through their stores and it just so happened that they are selling coffee. In the Philippines, fashion brand Rags 2 Riches is an example: it is a social enterprise that employs men and women from the poorest communities in Manila, and provides them fair access to the market, equal profit, and business education.

Another speaker went onboard in the person of SunLife Financial Advisor and Unit Manager Mr JP Cruz who gave an inspiring testimonial on how he was able to attain his dreams of becoming successful and where he is now. The struggles and hardships he had to endure in the past motivated and pushed him to strive harder and build a better future for his family with the help of SunLife.

He encouraged everyone that when a goal is set, it is possible to reach it with the help of sheer determination and confidence and knowledge and faith.

Jonathan posted this photo and caption on his Facebook account a day after his talk and event with SunLife PH. May we be all inspired by him!

Shared my journey and lessons learned to becoming the first Apprentice Asia during the #LiveBrighter Session yesterday at Gallery A Space for Sun Life Financial Philippines. I also recount my experience on why I consulted a Sun Life Financial advisor and the importance of having one to my engaging audience composed of millennials, business owners, and Sun Life financial advisors. Thank you Sun Life Financial Philippines for this great opportunity and to all the attendees; go grab those dreams!
